Most still remember the city of Petra and the sandstone ruins as the exotic location from the Ford and Spielberg classic, Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989). Here are destinations that you must absolutely include on your Tour Petra:
Petra is such a beautiful place so it is suggested that you spend a minimum of 2 days to explore it well. If you are on a day long expedition then that is great too as long as you are taking a guided tour. Mantis Tour Petra is organized for different private and group basis so if you are hoping to catch the city in all its glimmer and beauty but want to just do that with your family, a private tour is a must. The tour starts with getting to the city through the Siq. The beautiful tunnel like space has amazing adornments on the walls. Soon as you walk out of the tunnel, you will see the Treasury which is famous for all the right reasons for its grand interior and exterior.
The city is also famous for the beautiful Monastery which has some lavish interiors. Most tour operators include Wadi Muthlim in the tour too as this gives the travelers a chance to see the beautiful Treasury from the Jebel Al -Khubtha which is said to be the high place of Sacrifice. You can also enter the ancient city of Petra via the Wadi Muthlim and visit the Aqueduct, the Al-Wu'eira Fort which lie on the right side when you walk out of the Siq. However, if you choose this route, it best to go with a guide.
The High Place of Sacrifice is the magnificent site that lies uphill at the rock altars which were used for sacrifices. The uphill location gives some amazing view of the city and is great if you are a panoramic photography enthusiast. The site even gets really pleasant with windy weather and travelers can trek all the way down from the rear side of the hill. The trek route for coming back involves beautiful tombs and several carvings that travelers often end up missing. Even though the trek might sound hard but it is made simpler by the weather and the beautiful sites while going down. The route doesn't take longer than couple of hours but it is always great to trek with a local guide.
